Radcliffe and Gomes dos Santos win at NYC marathon
NEW YORK (Reuters) - Britain's Paula Radcliffe won the New York City marathon for a third time in emphatic fashion on Sunday, while Marilson Gomes dos Santos of Brazil posted a dramatic come-from-behind win in the men's race. Radcliffe led from start to finish and pulled away with a commanding performance to defend her 2007 title with a time of two hours 23 minutes 56 seconds. She had also won the race in 2004.

| Former world 400 meters record holder James dies at 61
NEW YORK (Reuters) - Former world 400 meters record-holder and twice Olympic medalist Larry James has died of cancer, USA Track & Field said on Friday. American James, a double medalist at the 1968 Games in Mexico City, died on Thursday in Smithville, New Jersey on his 61st birthday.
